Il Basilico was started 10 years ago by Alexander Cabalceta Lopez, also known as Chandy. Chandy was born and raised in Nosara, Costa Rica on a local farm. As a child Chandy and his family worked the land, harvested the food, and learned from his mother how to cook the typical Costa Rican food. These experiences gave him an appreciation for food and a desire to study to become a Chef. After studying with various Chef's in San Jose, Chandy returned to his Pueblo to open his own Italian restaurant in Garza. Each year his restaurant became more popular, thus moving to another location in Esperanza. Two years ago Chandy fulfilled the dream of purchasing the land and building Il Basilico in a location that feels like home. Please join Chandy daily at Il Basilico!
